Behind the Diamond Wire Chair: Designer Harry Bertoia
Harry Bertoia was an Italian-American artist and furniture designer who had made a splash in the modernist design movement in the 1950s, having designed several famed chairs and sculptures. These chairs and some sculptures were part of his wire series. Bertoia was fascinated with wires, as they manifested most of his works. The wire frames in BertoiaÂs works were meant to accentuate free spaces and air. BertoiaÂs untitled wire sculpture currently sits in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D. C.
