Behind the Mademoiselle Chair Replica: Designer Philippe Starck

Philippe Starck was a successful mid-20th century French designer, who had worked in industrial, architecture, product and interior designs. He rose to prominence after creating his own industrial design company Ubik, in which he had constructed simple designs on mass produced goods. His work showed so much promise that it caught the attention of the then French President François Mitterrand, who hired Starck to re-design his apartments. He designed buildings throughout the world including Japan, Spain, Britain and a luxury hotel chain in the US. His line of work included furniture, street furniture, lighting, domestic appliances, office supplies and more. His works are on display in the MoMa (Museum of Modern Art) in New York, the Design museum in London, and several other museums in Europe.
