Manhattan Home Design

Small budget, big dreams!

01/26/2017 Manhattan Home Design
When you're building your own office space, the feeling is quite something else. Every element is personally hand picked - from the wallpaper to the furniture. But more often than not, our design plans don’t materialise. We all face that one issue - money. And, you're not someone who faces monetary issues, WOW! Kudos to you!
But a large group of people, usually, are hassled when it comes to full blown design expenses. Many of us are usually on a shoestring budget. Not all of us are Google building a space worth $1.9 billion. Small and medium business owners are usually penny smart and are stuck with an existing space, may find it easier to ignore the thought of designing or re-designing their office space entirely.
Now that we understand the problem, let's look at solutions. Below is a list of of seven things you could do to make your dream office, economically:

1. Flexible furniture

No! We aren't talking about furniture doing the Matrix move. We're talking about furniture pieces having multiple functions like your waiting couches for visitors could double up as loungers for the wanderers of the office, the ones who hate sitting in one place! Or office desks that could double up as chalk boards? Make a note of the different uses each item could be used for. This way, you’ll avoid all the extra purchases you would have made.

2. Color and Texture

Add color. Add texture. It could be in the form of a rug or in the form of some decor. And you do not have to spend a lot to achieve this! You could just throw in some pillows! Adding color and texture, not only instantaneously ups the morale of the workers, but also provides for depth in a space!

3. Buy in bulk

Always a smart idea! There are furniture stores that understand your needs and help with buying of bulk furniture. Also be sure to check out the deals and discounts that furniture stores offer. May not look much, but these are some great opportunities to save. Lastly, don’t forget to a close watch on the value adds offered. It could be in the form of free shipping or warranty, be sure not to miss out on these.

4. Think about lighting

If there is one thing that affects office spaces, big or small it is the light. Not many give it the thought it deserves. Horrible lighting spreads lethargy among the employees like plague. There is nothing better than sunlight. Use this natural light while you can? Invest in lamps that are mobile and multi functional. Like this one!

Offices that deserve a mention!

Here are three offices that we thought, are worthy of mention:

1. Quirky:

It was described by its PR Head, Tiffany Markofsky, as a "modern-day invention factory — Willy Wonka meets the Jetsons.” There couldn’t be a truer description for Quirky’s office. There are 140 Quirky teammates in this office and the massive space is decorated with repurposed and reused objects from New York City schools, gymnasiums and public parks. Desks are made of bowling alley lanes, and a conference table is built upon pallets. True to its name, Quirky has made a fully functional office, in a budget.

2. Food52:

The office of Food52, online cooking community and e-commerce site looks like a cozy apartment built and designed for you to snuggle in. Merrill Stubbs, a co-founder of Food52, said she wanted a space that “evokes hunger but is also soothing, super-functional as an office and also feels like a home.” Because the staff members use their office for photo shoots, the test kitchen also had to feel warm and lived-in, in keeping with the brand’s focus on home cooks. The office has installed soft lighting, vintage mid century furniture and fiddle-leaf fig trees.

3. Radishlab :

They just did up their space and wonderfully so! They didn't want to only focus on digital designing. Considering they spend a lot of time in their office, they wanted to create a warm, creative space that was also cost effective. From adding color and textures and to whiteboards to organizing their clutter, they did everything right.

5. Talk to Experts

While for many, it seems like a wasted expenditure, hiring an expert like Manhattan Home Design will help you save more in the long run. Their impeccable service and knowledge of furniture and spaces is just added bonus! And, believe you me, all this at affordable prices!

6. Furniture Replicas

Yeah, we know it's not the original. But if you're getting the same thing without just, and i mean JUST the brand name, then why not? The originals are consistently out of our budget. And we assure you that, while the replicas may not be the real deal, they definitely look crisp in an office. We love how companies like Barcelona Designs produce a replica of some of the classic mid-century seating.

7. Add greens

Not just to your food, but also your space. Ok, bad one. Sorry! These little things are such an uplifter of air almost instantly creating an aura around us. Be certain to buy plans that fit in your desired space - indoors or outdoors.
